I skipped recording last week because frankly, I didn’t feel like it! But I’m back this week with a couple of stories for episode 10.

Had to go to DMV yesterday.. thank god for having a family member who works there.

Woke up this morning and thought I’d have to take my cat to the vet, but he ended up being alright. But if you do get stuck with a large vet bill- Care Credit is the way to go. http://carecredit.com/

Rant: I don’t think its cool when podcasters joke about their listeners being ‘stalkers’.

Podcast Expo is coming up very soon, and I’m still trying to figure out my plants. Aaron and Jenny of http://www.bigshowradio.blogspot.com/ are having a get together on the 13th or the 14th, and I’d like to get together with Will of http://oneeighteen.libsyn.com/, Daphne of http://daphneabernathy.com/, and hopefully Diva of http://the-broad-cast.com/.

Fitness update: My scale sucks! But I’m pretty sure I’m down 1 more pound.

This episode got out a day later because I wanted to talk about JC Hutchins visit to Second Life for a monthly podcaster meetup. http://jchutchins.net/

Gary Leland from http://www.podcastpickle.com/ organizes the meetups each month. Radar Masukami of http://slundertheradar.com/ usually records the meetups. You can search for Podcast Island Podcast on itunes.

Still having recording issues with my setup, probably cause I don’t have all the equipment I need. (What the hell IS a mixer, anyway?)

I am completely addicted to PLURK! http://www.plurk.com/ (Twitter sucks. I’m not linking them cause its down right now anyway. You know it is.) Daphne Abernathy of Daphne’s Random Thoughts was joking with me about rambling podcasts. http://daphneabernathy.com/

Thank you to Keeme from Keemecast for the bumper! http://keemecast.wordpress.com/

I took a break from the podcast during my vacation last week, but I’m back now! The parents were in Washington DC over Fathers Day for their own vacation, so I took care of their cats and watched their house while they were gone.

Now that my parents are back from vacation, we celebrated a late Fathers Day this past Sunday over at the Hilton, and had dinner at Benihana. http://www.benihana.com/

(Video found on Youtube)

I was disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to go meet Amy and Bay from http://gritstoglitz.com/ last weekend. Hopefully there will be another chance to meet up some other time.

I’ve been doing some website/show notes work for Keeme of http://www.keeme.com/wp/. Since I do the show notes for our other podcast, http://www.diamondrust.mypodcast.com/ (http://darpodcast.wordpress.com/) he asked me if I’d the same thing for his podcast. The site I’m working on is at

http://keemecast.wordpress.com/

Also, he’s working on an internet radio station with his cousin. http://keemecast.com/

I finally have my new mic! Thank you so much to Radar Masukami of http://slundertheradar.com/. Listening back, I can already hear a vast improvement of the audio quality of this recording.

One of the podcasts I’ve been listening to the longest is Grits to Glitz, and they’re holding a meetup on Sunday the 22nd that I plan to go to. They also gave me a really sweet mention in one of their recent episodes at http://gritstoglitz.com/.

Feedback this week was from Guy David of http://guydavid.com/.

This weeks promo is from Rich Palmer of Blogs, Views and Blues. He is also a musician and has a couple of podcasts under his belt. Find out more at http://richpalmer.com/.

Hilarious videos! http://youtube.com/user/RealLiveTalkingCat. I’ll post video #1 of 5 below. But definitely go look at them all, they’re great. The 2nd and 3rd ones are my personal favorites.

This week I’ve finally made the move from Mypodcast.com and over to Libsyn. I’ve been talking about doing this for awhile, and its about time I got it done. The new direct link for downloads is http://fromthistothat.libsyn.com/ . Be sure to resubscribe on iTunes using that RSS feed, as the old one hosted on Mypodcast.com is no longer valid. You can email me at ftttpodcast@gmail.com

Sometime this week, I’ll be getting a new Samson condensor mic, courtesy of Radar Masukami. Hopefully this will eliminate that pesky hissing and popping thats been plaguing my podcasts since I started. Thank you, Radar!

After being out of touch for a year or so, I’ve been back in contact with my best friend from high school, John. I talked a little bit about how we met on a class trip.

This week on From This To That, I talk about how I got into local music promotion and journalism at a young age. A brief mention about some technical theatre I did some work in a few years ago. The Star Trek Experience at the Hilton will be closing soon! I went with my parents to look around one final time before the doors officially close.

While I was there, I got my picture with a very stern looking Klingon.

Arri Gaffer sent very helpful feedback with some microphone recommendations. Thank you, Arri!

I’ve been spending a lot of time hanging out with some friends I’ve lost touch with at the internet radio station, http://www.bounceradio.net/

“B.O.U.N.C.E. Radio hand selects the Broadcasters from across the world, and features unsigned talent. With it’s host of listeners, supporters and broadcasters, B.O.U.N.C.E. Radio sets out to offer something a little different than other “commercial” Internet radio stations don’t offer. New music & talent with all original programming. If you like rock, Great! We got it! How about talk Radio? We got you covered! But it doesn’t stop there, if you’re into the paranormal and things that go bump in the night, we got you covered there too. Just head over to our Schedule for a full lineup of show times, and descriptions. There is something for everyone here at B.O.U.N.C.E. Radio. B.O.U.N.C.E. Radio also offers a chat room so our listeners can interact with the Broadcasters live on-air and make song requests.

B.O.U.N.C.E. Radio is commercial free Internet based Radio station that focuses on content concerning unsigned bands and our own original content, than the drawn out commercialized Broadcasting those other stations have. We showcase the wide range of talents from hand selected Broadcasters from both USA, the UK, Canada and Europe. Sometimes, being privately owned and doing your own thing isn’t bad at all!”

I first heard of Bounceradio by listening to the Switchback podcast, put out by the people at http://www.bluemanlibrary.com/.

Paul (Dawghse) is one of the on air personalities at Bounce Radio, as well as has a band called Blood Orange. I play some of their music during the podcast. Visit their myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/dawghse

Keeme of the Keemecast ( http://www.keeme.com/ ) and I met on Second Life, and started doing a podcast together called Diamonds and Rust thats mostly about Second Life. You can download that at http://www.diamondrust.mypodcast.com/. We’re talking about doing another podcast together pretty soon that will be more of in the general/comedy-talk genre.

This week I talked about what its like growing up in Tornado Alley. Having lived in southeast Kansas from age 5-17, tornado season became a regular part of life every spring. I talk about my early experiences with tornados, including one night in April 1991 when around 30 tornados hit the Kansas/Oklahoma area over the course of the night. Here is some incredible footage from that night, taken by a camera crew that got trapped beneath an overpass with little to no shelter, as an F1 tornado passed directly over them. This footage is incredible!

And for anyone who has never actually heard a tornado siren, this is what its like.

Its been easily 13 years since I’ve heard a tornado siren in real life, but just hearing it on the video still raises goosebumps up and down my arms, and gives me that instinctive adrenline rush you get from living around that for so long.

I also discuss the biker that lives across from me, who has a strange fondness for 80′s hair metal bands.

Weight loss challenge update:

Week One:

Been working out 20 minutes each night, eating mostly fresh fruit and vegetables, white meat, hard boiled eggs and almonds this week. Total weight lost so far: 4 pounds.

Well, this is my very first blog entry to go along with episode 1 of From This To That. I know the quality of that first episode isn’t the best, but I wanted to hurry and get started with this before I run into the trend of procrastinating and putting it off. Episode 2 will be better- promise!

The first five minutes or so of this episode details my plans and goals for losing weight and getting in shape. When I started this podcast, my idea was to have that be the primary focus. But I’ve since decided that honestly, that wouldn’t be quite as much fun to record or listen to. Thats still going to be a part of From This To That, but I’m only going to make that a segment. The rest of the time I’ll be talking about other things, which will vary from week to week. It just depends on what happens to be on my mind at the moment. :)

This week I talked a little bit about what its like to live in Las Vegas.. dispelled a myth or two about “Sin City”, and mentioned a couple of celebrity sightings.

New Media Expo is rapidly approaching, and since its in Vegas this year, I plan to be there. I can’t wait to meet some of my friends from Second Life, as well as a lot of the podcasters that I’ve been listening to for years.
